Bengaluru Archbishop Celebrates the Much Awaited Chrism Mass



Bangalore, October 27, 2020: Most Rev. Dr. Peter Machado, Archbishop of Bangalore celebrated the Chrism Mass on Tuesday at St. Francis Xavier’s Cathedral in the presence of over 80 priests.


The Chrism Mass is an the important liturgical celebration of the Diocese, during which, the Bishop blesses the Holy Oils and consecrates the Chrism, and also the priests express their unity and solidarity with the Bishop of the Diocese by renewing their oath of obedience. This solemnity which usually takes place around the Holy Week could not be performed this year because of the widespread of the Novel Corona Virus (COVID 19).




The entry and participation for the Chrism Mass was restricted only to the priests of the Archdiocese of Bangalore. All the necessary precautions and safety measures were taken according to the Government’s guidelines regarding Covid 19.

Archbishop, in his homily addressed the priests about the importance of blessed oils. "Oil of the Catechumens is the beginning of our union with Jesus Christ... This is the day we celebrate our birth, our priesthood collectively. When we become frail and weak in our physical and spiritual lives, these blessed oils will strengthen us, renew us and give us the hope of a new beginning," he said.


Archdiocesan Communication Center (ACC) aired the live telecast of the Chrism Mass on YouTube, website and other online platforms.
