A Grand Celebration of St. Francis Xavier's Feast at St. Francis Xavier's Cathedral

Bangalore, December 3, 2023: In a jubilant atmosphere, the Archdiocese of Bangalore commemorated the Feast of St. Francis Xavier at the magnificent St. Francis Xavier's Cathedral, the Mother Church of the Archdiocese nestled in Cleveland Town, Bangalore.

The Most Rev. Dr. Peter Machado, Metropolitan Archbishop of Bangalore, led the solemn Holy Eucharist, joined by a number of clergy members including Msgr. C. Francis, the Vicar General of the Archdiocese, and Rev. Fr. D. Arokiaswamy, Rector cum Parish Priest of the Cathedral. The sacred celebration also saw the participation of numerous diocesan and religious priests, creating a profound sense of unity and spiritual devotion.

This significant observance coincided with the commencement of the advent season, a period of anticipation and reflection leading up to Christmas. Archbishop Machado, in his insightful homily, underscored the essence of advent, urging the congregation to embrace wakefulness and vigilance in anticipation of the arrival of Christ. Drawing parallels to the teachings of St. Francis Xavier, renowned as one of the Church's greatest missionaries during his brief sojourn in India, Archbishop Machado highlighted the saint's call for spiritual preparedness and eager anticipation of the Lord's coming.

Following the spiritually enriching Mass, Archbishop Peter Machado extended his blessings to the community by inaugurating the newly renovated chapel of St. Anthony. This momentous occasion took place in the presence of priests, religious and lay faithful.
