The Archdiocese of Bangalore gathered in deep prayer and unity for the Chrism Mass at St. Francis Xavier Cathedral. The Cathedral was filled with priests, religious, and lay faithful, all coming together as one Church to celebrate this sacred liturgy that reflects the heart of the Church’s sacramental life.

The celebration began with a solemn procession, during which the Holy Oils were carried reverently to the altar. These oils—the Oil of the Sick (OI), the Oil of Catechumens (OC), and the Sacred Chrism (SC)—are not just symbols, but powerful signs of God’s grace at work among His people.

In his homily, Archbishop Peter Machado spoke with pastoral concern about the realities of today’s world and the mission entrusted to every Christian. “God has sent each one of us to proclaim the Good News to the poor, to give sight to the blind, to bring freedom to captives, and to be messengers of hope,” he said. His words called the faithful to live their faith actively, reaching out with compassion and courage in everyday life.

Auxiliary Bishop Arokiaraj Satis Kumar reflected deeply on the meaning of the Holy Oils and the responsibility they bring. He reminded the faithful that these oils touch our lives at important moments—from Baptism to healing—and invite us to live as people chosen and strengthened by God. Rt. Rev. Joseph Susainathan, speaking about the Year of Couples, encouraged families to remain faithful to the covenant of love, reminding them that God’s grace, like the Sacred Chrism, consecrates and strengthens their commitment to one another.

A deeply moving moment followed as priests from across the archdiocese stood together to renew their priestly promises. In unity with their bishop, they recommitted themselves to serve God and His people with love and fidelity. The presence of so many priests, along with the prayerful participation of the faithful, made this moment especially powerful and inspiring.

At the end of the celebration, Auxiliary Bishop Satis Kumar honored Archbishop Peter Machado and the bishops, expressing gratitude for their guidance and leadership. The Archbishop then felicitated the jubilarians—Rev. Fr. Varghese and Rev. Fr. Maria Selvam for 40 years of priesthood, and Rev. Fr. Amarnath and Rev. Fr. Edward David for their silver jubilee—while also extending congratulations to Rev. Fr. Arul Sampath in absentia. The Mass concluded with a heartfelt vote of thanks by Rev. Fr. Christopher White, bringing the celebration to a joyful close, filled with gratitude, unity, and renewed spiritual strength for the mission ahead.
