Archbishop to Children: "Confirmation is a Pentecostal Experience"


Bangalore, September 11, 2022: Most Rev. Dr Peter Machado, Metropolitan Archbishop of Bangalore, conferred the sacrament of confirmation on 73 candidates belonging to the Our Lady of Velankanni Church in Yelahanka New Town, on Sunday, September 11, 2022.


Rev. Fr. Amal Raj Crispin, the Parish Priest of Our Lady of Velankanni Church, Rev. Fr. Vivek Lionel Basu, Secretary to the Archbishop, Rev. Fr. Anthony Chellapandy, CSC and Rev. Fr. Patrick from the Archdiocese of Goa and Daman were concelebrants of the solemn Holy Eucharist.


Addressing the children who were eagerly waiting to receive the sacrament of confirmation, Archbishop Machado said that the sacrament of Confirmation is a Pentecostal Experience.



Emphasizing the gifts of the Holy Spirit, the prelate said "After receiving the sacrament of confirmation you should do the mission of Christ with courage and prudence. Prudence in spreading the gospel is as important as being courageous,"


The Archbishop also spoke about the importance of the virtue of understanding in the families as he referred the day's gospel passage for reflection. He also elucidated with many examples of how families are divided just because of a lack of understanding among the members of a family.

Later, the Metropolitan Archbishop Most Rev Dr. Peter Machado blessed the statue of Our Lady of Velankanni at the Church premises. Archbishop also hoisted the Papal Flag for the first time on the newly installed flag post.


Rev. Fr. Amal Raj Crispin, the Parish Priest, thanked and felicitated the Archbishop and presented him with a new 'Our Lady of Vellankanni' statue.
