Archdiocesan Health Commission Organises Free Spectacles for Needy at Murphy Town and Chickballapura

Bangalore, July 23, 2025: In a heartwarming act of service, the Health Commission of the Archdiocese of Bangalore, in partnership with Dr. Agarwal’s Eye Hospital, organised a Free Eye Camp at Good Shepherd Church, Murphy Town, and the St. Francis Xavier Church, Chickballapura. The initiative aimed at reaching out to the underprivileged members of the community, offering free eye check-ups and distribution of spectacles to the needy.

More than 300 people availed themselves of the services at both venues. Trained ophthalmologists and support staff from Dr. Agarwal’s Hospital conducted the screenings with efficiency and compassion. The Health Commission ensured smooth organisation and communication with the parishes.

As part of the outreach, free spectacles were distributed to patients diagnosed with vision problems. Many beneficiaries expressed gratitude for the timely help they received—especially the elderly, who often struggle with untreated eye conditions due to financial constraints.

Fr. Alban Zeo, Secretary of the Health Commission of the Archdiocese, highlighted the broader vision behind the initiative:

“This is more than just about eye care—it’s about restoring dignity and independence to our people. Good health is a gift, and as a Church, we are committed to ensuring that the poorest among us are not left behind.”

Fr. Alban also encouraged other parishes to take up similar initiatives. “Parishes that are interested in organising such camps in their local communities are welcome to reach out to us. The Health Commission is here to support and coordinate such efforts for the good of all.”
