Celebrating the Heart of the Priesthood: St. John Mary Vianney Inspires a Day of Prayer and Renewal

Bengaluru, August 4: In a beautiful celebration of faith, fraternity, and priestly renewal, the Archbishop, Bishops, and priests of the Archdiocese of Bangalore gathered at St. Francis Xavier's Cathedral to celebrate the Feast of St. John Mary Vianney, the Patron of Parish Priests. The day became a joyful reminder that every priest is called to be a shepherd of hope, walking closely with Christ and faithfully serving His people.

The celebration began with Eucharistic Adoration, where the priests spent time in silent prayer before the Lord, renewing their vocation and entrusting their ministry to God's loving care. It was a grace-filled moment that set the tone for the day, reminding everyone that every fruitful ministry begins in the presence of Christ.

Rev. Fr. Charles Leon offered an enriching session on the Council of Diocesan Priests of India (CDPI). He reflected on the importance of priestly communion, leadership, and shared responsibility in building a vibrant and mission-oriented Church. The session inspired the priests to continue walking together with renewed dedication and mutual support.

The gathering then moved into an engaging session of discussion and sharing, where priests reflected on their pastoral experiences and hopes for the future. During the meeting, elections for the CDPI were conducted, and Rev. Fr. Susairaj and Rev. Fr. Dominic Xavier were elected to represent the Archdiocese of Bangalore. The assembly warmly congratulated them and prayed that their service would strengthen the unity and mission of the presbyterate.

The highlight of the celebration was the Holy Eucharist, presided over by Most Rev. Dr. Peter Machado, Archbishop of Bangalore, together with the Auxiliary Bishops and the priests of the Archdiocese. Reflecting on the life of St. John Mary Vianney, the Archbishop encouraged the priests to remain rooted in prayer, to serve with humility, and to become living signs of hope for the people entrusted to their care.

In his message, the Archbishop said, "The life of St. John Mary Vianney reminds us that the strength of a priest is not found in achievements but in his closeness to Christ. When a priest prays, loves, and serves with humility, he becomes a living witness of hope for the Church and the world. Let us continue to walk together, united in faith and joyful in our mission."

Following the Eucharistic celebration, the Archbishop, the Auxiliary Bishops, and all the priests were felicitated in appreciation of their generous and faithful service to the Archdiocese. The gathering reflected the beauty of priestly fraternity and the shared mission of proclaiming Christ with renewed enthusiasm.

The celebration concluded with a heartfelt vote of thanks by Rev. Fr. Christopher White, who expressed gratitude to the Archbishop, the Bishops, the organising team, and every priest for making the celebration a memorable occasion of prayer, fellowship, and hope.
