Bangalore : The Archdiocesan Women's Commission has been focused on encouraging and giving new life for women as well as girl children. Past few months have been tough, specially for children from poor background, whose education had been halted due to non availability of any device. Ladies of Ascension Women's Cell teamed up with SSVP Ascension Conference who helped in identifying the 4 deserving girl students. This event was to show full support towards the 4 deserving girls ,who will now benefit from the tablet they received from the hands of our beloved Archbishop Rev Peter Machado. The event took place on 18 September, 2020 at Ascension Church Parish hall.
Limited members were called for the event , to ensure appropriate social distance was maintained. Before the event could start, attendees (women cell) shared opinions, thoughts and suggestions for coming up with more such activities , wherein the women of our society would benefit. Lorna Lobo (Secretary of Women's Commission, Bangalore Archdiocese) enlightened lot of ways church can conduct activities, by creating a strong bond for women.
The Parish Priest of Ascension Church , Fr. John Rose welcomed the Archbishop Rev. Peter Machado , and Fr. Yesu Balan (Secretary to Archbishop). Fr. John Rose, started the function with a short prayer, followed by the Ascension Women's Cell members and Lorna Lobo singing the hymn "Here I Am Lord”.
Elaine Menezes, a senior member of Ascension Women's Cell gave a warm welcome speech and coordinated the entire event wonderfully! Lorna Lobo then gave a meaningful speech on the work of Women's Commission and went on to address the girls and their mothers in Kannada.
Archbishop addressed all, thanking the willingness of people who came forward to sponsor these 4 devices. He also gave a special speech to the 4 girls, to pray and shower their blessings towards the people who came out of their comfort zone for helping them. He also stated that our community has to grow even more stronger and help each other. So far 28,000 families have been helped during the crisis of Covid-19.
Dr. Julie Sangeeta (President, Ascension Women's Cell) lauded the hard work and determination of mothers to educate their daughters.
Mr. Cedrik D'sa (President , SSVP) also gave a speech on women's cell initiatives taken by which the lives of these 4 children will be transformed.
