The Archdiocese of Bangalore held the first meeting of its Archdiocesan Pastoral Council on March 21, 2026, bringing together priests, religious, and lay faithful from across the Archdiocese. The meeting began with a prayer, entrusting the gathering to the Lord and seeking the guidance of the Holy Spirit as the Council set out on its mission of service and collaboration. Fr. Maria Anthony welcomed everyone and introduced the day’s meeting, outlining the flow of the sessions and inviting all present to actively participate in the discussions.

In his address, Rt. Rev. Arokia Raj Satis Kumar spoke about the purpose and nature of the Pastoral Council. He reminded the members that the Council is a sign of unity and co-responsibility in the Church. He said, “The Pastoral Council is not just a structure, but a living expression of the Church where every voice matters and every effort builds up the Body of Christ.” His words encouraged members to take their role seriously and to serve with dedication.

The Council then elected its office bearers. Mr. Antony Cruz was chosen as Secretary and Sr. Leena SMMI as Joint Secretary. Both accepted their responsibilities with willingness, and their appointments were approved by Most Rev. Dr. Peter Machado, Archbishop of Bangalore. The meeting continued with a review of key pastoral areas. Rt. Rev. Joseph Susainathan presented on Small Christian Communities and Family Ministry, highlighting the importance of strengthening families and nurturing faith at the grassroots. He noted, “When families grow strong in faith, the Church becomes alive and vibrant in every parish.”

Archbishop Peter Machado addressed the Council on Evangelization and Faith Formation, calling for renewed enthusiasm in proclaiming the Word of God. He said, “We are called to be a listening Church that also boldly proclaims Christ in today’s world.” Other important areas such as Social Justice, Liturgy, and Education were also taken up, followed by a meaningful discussion where members shared their ideas, concerns, and suggestions for the growth of the Archdiocese.

The meeting concluded with the Eucharistic Celebration presided over by the Archbishop. In his homily, Bishop Satis Kumar reminded the members, “We are called to serve with faith, humility, and a deep sense of responsibility in building up the Church.” Following the homily, all the members made their Profession of Faith and formally assumed their office as members of the Archdiocesan Pastoral Council by taking a pledge on the Holy Bible. The day concluded with a fellowship lunch, marking a joyful and hope-filled beginning for the Archdiocesan Pastoral Council.
