Bangalore, August 15, 2025 – The Church rejoices as His Holiness Pope Leo XIV appoints Most Rev. Dr. Francis Serrao SJ, currently Bishop of Shimoga, as the new shepherd of the Diocese of Mysore.
With hearts full of gratitude to God, Archbishop Peter Machado, the Auxiliary Bishops, priests, religious, and faithful of the Archdiocese of Bangalore join the people of Mysore in offering warm congratulations to Bishop Francis. This new appointment is seen as a grace-filled moment and a sign of God’s providence for the Church in Karnataka.
Bishop Francis Serrao, a Jesuit known for his pastoral zeal, deep faith, and commitment to the marginalized, now takes on the responsibility of guiding the faithful of Mysore into a new chapter of growth and renewal.

The Archdiocese also extends heartfelt thanks to Archbishop Emeritus Bernard Moras, who has faithfully served as Apostolic Administrator during this interim period, and to Bishop K.A. William, for his years of shepherding the Diocese of Mysore. Their service and dedication have laid a strong foundation for the ministry ahead.
May the Diocese of Mysore, under the guidance of its new Bishop, continue to shine as a beacon of faith, hope, and love in the heart of Karnataka.
