Sunday, December 29, 2024: The Archdiocese of Bangalore solemnly inaugurated the Jubilee Year 2025, responding to Pope Francis' invitation to all Catholic dioceses to mark the beginning of this special year of grace. The momentous occasion was set against the backdrop of the Feast of the Holy Family, bringing together the faithful to seek the blessings and graces of the Jubilee.

The celebration began with the blessing of the Jubilee Cross, an iconic symbol marking the commencement of the Jubilee. Archbishop Peter Machado, together with the Auxiliary Bishops, led the solemn blessing ceremony. The event was filled with reverence as the faithful gathered to witness the profound moment of faith. Following the blessing, a grand procession made its way to the Cathedral, led by the Bishops, priests, sisters, and the faithful of the Archdiocese. The Jubilee Cross was then installed at the Cathedral, where the sacred Mass commenced.

During the Mass, the Auxiliary Bishops delivered powerful reflections. Auxiliary Bishop Satis spoke on the significance of the Holy Family during this Jubilee Year, emphasizing that “The Holy Family is a model of faith, love, and unity, and it calls us to reflect on how we, as families, can live out these virtues in our daily lives, especially during this grace-filled Jubilee.”

Auxiliary Bishop Susainathan then shared his reflections on the Cross in the life of Christians and families, saying, “The Cross is not just a symbol of suffering but a sign of ultimate hope, strength, and love. It teaches us the importance of carrying our crosses with faith and perseverance, especially within our families.”

Archbishop Peter Machado concluded the homily by focusing on the importance of pilgrimages during the Jubilee Year. “This Jubilee Year offers us an opportunity to make pilgrimages, not only to holy sites but also to places where hope seems dim. Let us be the bearers of hope and faith in these times,” he stated.

At the conclusion of the Mass, the Bishops unveiled several key resources for the Jubilee Year. These included the Jubilee Year Booklet, which outlines the spiritual and liturgical highlights of the year, and Liturgical Resources for the Jubilee Year that will guide the faithful in their journey of prayer and devotion. In addition, the Directory of the Archdiocese of Bangalore, the Pastoral Plan of the CCBI, and the Jubilee Section on Catholic Connect were also launched, providing the faithful with further tools for engagement during the Jubilee Year.

As the celebrations came to a close, a heartfelt moment of gratitude was extended to the Vicar Generals of the Archdiocese for their 14 years of dedicated service. Their tireless efforts in supporting the Archbishop and the faithful were recognized, and they were thanked for their leadership during this significant occasion.

In a touching tribute to the Feast of the Holy Family, the Family Welfare Center of the Archdiocese released a short film highlighting the importance of family life and the role of faith in strengthening families. The film serves as an inspiring reminder for all to follow the example of the Holy Family in their own homes.

The inauguration of the Jubilee Year 2025 was a powerful expression of faith, unity, and hope for the Archdiocese of Bangalore. With the blessings of the Jubilee Cross and the reflections from the clergy, the faithful are now ready to embark on this year-long journey of spiritual renewal, pilgrimage, and grace.
