Rooted in the powerful message of John 3:16, “For God so loved the world that He gave His only Son,” the Serra community journeyed through the Lenten season with prayerful reflection, fellowship, and a renewed commitment to vocations. The month of March witnessed meaningful spiritual gatherings that invited members and the faithful to draw closer to God’s love and purpose.

A Lenten Recollection was organised at Seva Nilaya Convent, Davis Road, bringing together Serra members and their friends for a time of quiet reflection and renewal. The day began with the celebration of the Holy Eucharist, presided over by Fr. Joseph Rodriguez SDB. In his homily, he reflected deeply on Christ’s sacrifice on the cross, reminding the faithful of the grace that flows when one participates in the Holy Mass with full attention and devotion.

Drawing from Scripture, Fr. Rodriguez reflected on God’s questions to Adam, “Where are you?” and to Cain, “Where is your brother?”, highlighting how distance from God makes one vulnerable to sin and deception. He encouraged the gathering to remain humble, avoid hardening their hearts, and allow the Holy Spirit to guide their lives. Emphasising that Jesus, from the crib to the cross, emptied Himself so that humanity may be filled, he urged all to use the Lenten season as a time to grow in holiness and intimacy with God.

The recollection continued with a meaningful Way of the Cross, prayerfully led by Serran Arun Sequeira. Each station became a moment of deep contemplation, connecting Christ’s suffering with the needs of the Church and the faithful today. The gathering concluded on a warm note with fellowship over a simple lunch, strengthening bonds of community and shared faith.

Continuing their mission, on March 22, the Serra members participated in the 1M (One Mass a Month) initiative at Our Lady of Lourdes Church. After each Mass, they engaged with parishioners, sharing about Serra’s mission and distributing prayer cards for vocations. Fr. Maria Louis, Parish Priest, also encouraged the faithful to pray earnestly for vocations and for the perseverance of those already called, making the day a strong witness to the Church’s ongoing need for dedicated servants.
