In a beautiful expression of missionary discipleship, the Archdiocese of Bangalore has once again sent its newly ordained priests for mission experience to different dioceses across India. Continuing a meaningful tradition followed over the past six years, these young priests step out with courage, faith, and zeal to serve the people of God in mission territories where the Church continues to grow through sacrifice, simplicity, and witness.

Jesus, before ascending into heaven, commissioned His apostles saying:“Go therefore and make disciples of all nations” (Matthew 28:19).The missionary journey of these young priests reflects the same spirit of the Gospel — to go beyond comfort zones, to proclaim Christ, and to become signs of hope among the people they serve.

Under the visionary leadership of Archbishop Most Rev. Dr. Peter Machado, the Archdiocese has constantly emphasized the importance of missionary outreach and pastoral exposure for newly ordained priests. The Archbishop often reminds the clergy that “the Church grows not by remaining within walls, but by going out in love, service, and mission.” His encouragement has inspired many young priests to embrace missionary life with openness and generosity.

This year, six newly ordained priests have been sent to dioceses such as Gulbarga, Bareilly, Jabalpur, Jashpur, and Daltonganj for their mission experience beginning from June 15, 2026. These regions often present challenging realities — language barriers, unfamiliar cultures, remote villages, lack of resources, long journeys, and demanding pastoral situations. Yet, these very struggles become moments of grace and transformation.

Over the years, priests who returned from mission experience have shared how deeply these months shaped their priesthood. Living among the poor, celebrating the Eucharist in small communities, visiting families, accompanying youth, and listening to the struggles of ordinary people helped them discover the true joy of priestly ministry. Many return with renewed zeal, deeper compassion, stronger faith, and a greater understanding of the universal Church.

Mission experience also becomes a school of humility and hope. The young priests learn to rely more on God, work closely with people, and use their talents creatively in catechesis, youth ministry, liturgy, education, and social outreach. Far from weakening them, the hardships strengthen their commitment to Christ and His people.

The faithful of the Archdiocese of Bangalore take pride in these young missionaries who generously offer themselves for the service of the Church. Their willingness to go to the “peripheries” reflects the spirit encouraged by Pope Francis — a Church that reaches out, accompanies, heals, and brings hope.

As these priests begin their missionary journey, the Archdiocese assures them of prayers and support. May their witness inspire more young people to courageously respond to God’s call, and may their service bear abundant fruits for the Kingdom of God.

“Here I am, Lord; send me.” (Isaiah 6:8)
