Most Rev Anthony Kariyil elevated to be the Archiepiscopal vicar

The Archdiocese of Bangalore is very happy to note that Most Rev Anthony Kariyil is elevated as the Archepiscopal Vicar of the Ernakulam - Angamaly Archdiocese by the Syro-Malabar Church Synod in Kerala. This appointment, though it is good news to the Syro-Malabar Church, is big loss for the Church in Karnataka, as Archbishop Kariyil was a well known figure in Karnataka with his dynamic presence and activities in Mandya and Bangalore. That he was based in Karnataka for many years and his long association with Christ College, which is now an University, marks him as a genial pastor and able administrator. On behalf of the Archdiocese of Bangalore, I wish the new Archepiscopal Vicar, Most Rev Anthony Kariyil a tenure of grace and blessings in the Archdiocese of Ernakulam - Angamaly.

We whole-heartedly welcome Most Rev Sebastian Adyantharath, who was up to now Auxillary Bishop of Ernakulam - Angamaly, as the new Bishop of Mandya. Bishop Sebastian comes with a vast experience as he was ordained a Bishop 18 years ago. I have personally known Bishop Sebastian ever since our Seminary days at Papal Seminary in Pune. May God bless him abundantly as he steps into the shoes of his illustrious predecessor, Most Rev Anthony Kariyil, who is now elevated as the Archepiscopal Vicar of the Archdiocese of Ernakulam - Angamaly in Kerala.
