27th August, 2019: Through the support of the Archdiocese of Bangalore, 10 new houses are built for the victims affected by great floods which took place last year (2018). Archbishop Peter Machado and his team visited the diocese of Verapoly to bless the newly constructed houses and rebuild hope in the lives of flood victims. Most Rev. Dr. Joseph Kalathiparambil, Archbishop of Verapoly joyfully received the team and Fr. Martin, Director of ESSS was the main instrument in identifying the beneficiaries and construction of houses. He led us to visit all the houses located in Chennur (1 House), Varapuza (2 Houses), Kadamakudu (1 House), Palliamthuruth (2 Houses) and Pizhala (4 Houses).
A dedication ceremony of the Housing project of the archdiocese of Bangalore - Caritas India was held in the afternoon at Pizhala Parish. After the ceremony the Archbishop of Bangalore and the donors handed over the house keys to the beneficiaries.
The Vicar General of Veraply diocese thanked the Archbishop of Bangalore and the donors for their support and timely help. Fr. Paul Moonjely, Executive director of Caritas India and Fr Edward President, CRI, Bangalore was present at the ceremony.
The team also comprised of Fr. Joseph Naveen, Fr. Antony Swamy, Mr. Tom Thomas, Mr. Wills Werruny, Mr. Santhosh, Dr. John Tharakkan, Fr. Christopher (St. Antony’s Friary Church, Madiwala), Fr Manohar (St. Vincent Palloti Church, Banaswadi), Notre Dame sisters, Sisters from our lady of the mission and Sophia School students.
