The Archdiocese of Bangalore condoles the death of Rev. Fr. Amruthraj T.S.


Bangalore, August 2, 2019:

In the wee hours of Friday morning, 2nd August the archdiocese of Bangalore woke up with the sad news of the demise of very Rev. Fr. Amruthraj T. S., a senior priest and the former vicar general. He had a peaceful death and it is presumed that he passed away due to cardiac arrest around 3 am at the clergy home, Bangalore.

Msgr. Amruthraj was born on 19th February, 1937 in Tumkur. His parents were the late Mr. Sourappa and the late Mrs. Souramma who had six children (3 boys and 3 girls) and Fr. Amruthraj was the third child. He served in different capacities and has left an incredible contribution through his pastoral ministries in different parishes and offices of the archdiocese.

Archbishop Most Rev. Dr. Peter Machado condoning the death of the senior priest has requested all the priests and faithful of the archdiocese to pray for his soul. He also extends his condolences to the near and dear ones of late Fr. Amruthraj.

He was known for his prayerful and exemplary life. He was also known for his simplicity and humble life. He was very pleasant and accommodating personality that anyone could easily approach him as he made himself available for everybody. He treated everyone equally without any discrimination or priority. He was very helpful, optimistic and championed the cause of the poor, the underprivileged and the disadvantaged in the parishes and the institutions he had served. He went out of his way to empower the poor by giving them education and jobs. Due to his tireless and dedicated service, all the parishes and institutions that he had served saw tremendous growth, both spiritually and temporally.

As the Financial Administrator and the Vicar General of the Archdiocese, he was directly involved in the financial and pastoral administration of the Archdiocese. Hence, he was instrumental in the pastoral development and the growth of the Archdiocesan parishes and institutions during his time.

The installation of the unique and a master-piece hand carved wooden altar, the Bishop’s Chair (Cathedra), the Celebrants Chairs, the beautiful lectern at St. Francis Xavier’s Cathedral Church are credited to the unique personality of Msgr. Amruthraj.

His Funeral Service and Burial will take place on at 10.30 a.m. at the Sacred Heart Church, Richmond Road. The mortal remains of Msgr. Amruthraj will be kept for public homage at Sacred Heart Church on 5th August, 2019 from 09.30 a.m. onwards.
