The Archdiocese of Bangalore organized an Ongoing Formation Programme for the Young Clergy from 10th to 12th February 2026 at Mt. Don Bosco, Kotagiri, Tamil Nadu. The three days were marked by a spirit of learning, prayer, sharing, and fraternity, giving young priests an opportunity to pause and renew themselves for ministry. The programme was held under the guidance of Rt. Rev. Arockiaraj Satis Kumar, Auxiliary Bishop of Bangalore.

This formation initiative reflects the heartfelt desire of Most Rev. Dr. Peter Machado, Archbishop of Bangalore, that young priests be continuously formed and strengthened so that they may serve God’s people with confidence, competence, and compassion. The Archbishop encourages the clergy to grow not only in knowledge but also in human maturity and spiritual depth, so that their priestly ministry becomes more meaningful, joyful, and effective.

The first day of the programme focused on effective ministry through media, with Fr. Selva Kumar, SDB, helping participants understand how modern communication tools can be used responsibly and creatively for evangelization. Sessions on practical pastoral psychology and practical pastoral theology by Fr. Robert Alphonse, SDB, enabled the young priests to better understand people’s struggles and respond with sensitivity and wisdom. A practical session on the basics of cooking added a simple but meaningful touch, reminding priests about self-care and healthy living alongside their pastoral responsibilities.

The second day placed special emphasis on health and well-being. Sr. Maria spoke on diet and nutrition and shared simple home Ayurvedic remedies for healthy living. Fr. Gnanadoss guided sessions on mental health, counseling through case studies, and recent developments in medical ethics and moral theology, equipping priests to face today’s complex pastoral situations with clarity and balance. Games, recreation, and a joyful campfire in the evening helped strengthen bonds of friendship and fraternity

On the final day, a session on liturgy and marriage helped participants reflect more deeply on their role in celebrating the sacraments and accompanying families. Organized group games and an evaluation session followed, during which the young clergy shared their experiences and offered suggestions for future programmes.

Each day was rooted in prayer, with Holy Eucharist, Morning and Evening Prayer, and Eucharistic Adoration forming the heart of the programme. The participants expressed gratitude for this enriching experience that refreshed them spiritually, strengthened them pastorally, and encouraged them to return to their parishes with renewed zeal.

The Archdiocese of Bangalore continues to walk with its young priests, ensuring that they are well-prepared for the mission entrusted to them. Guided by Bishop Arockiaraj Satis Kumar and inspired by the vision of Archbishop Peter Machado, this ongoing formation programme has once again affirmed the Church’s commitment to forming priests who are joyful, grounded, and ready to serve.
