The serene morning of August 15, 2025, was filled with patriotic fervor as the Archbishop’s House hosted a meaningful celebration of India’s 79th Independence Day. The event brought together the Clergy Home Fathers, priests of the house, sisters, and residents of the shelter home in a warm spirit of unity and gratitude for the gift of freedom.

The program began with a heartfelt welcome by Br. Arun, whose words set the tone for a gathering that was both solemn and joyous. This was followed by an inspiring message from Fr. George Negomias, who reminded everyone of the sacrifices of countless heroes and the responsibility we bear as citizens to uphold justice, peace, and harmony. Quoting Mahatma Gandhi, he said:
"The best way to find yourself is to lose yourself in the service of others."

With hearts swelling in pride, Archbishop Peter Machado stepped forward to hoist the tricolour. As the flag unfurled against the blue morning sky, the gathering joined in singing the National Anthem in unison—an expression of love, loyalty, and hope for our motherland.
Following the ceremony, the Archbishop addressed all present, reflecting on the need to protect the dignity of every citizen and to build a society rooted in truth, justice, and brotherhood. He said:
"True freedom is not just the liberty to live, but the courage to love, serve, and uplift one another."
He then led the assembly in a heartfelt prayer for India, invoking God’s blessings for peace, prosperity, and unity. Concluding the celebration, Archbishop Peter Machado imparted his blessings upon the entire nation, praying that every corner of India may shine with hope, harmony, and God’s unfailing grace.
The celebration was a reminder that while freedom is a gift from the past, it is also a responsibility for the present—and a legacy for the future.
