Uniting in Spirit and Patriotism: Independence Day at the Archbishop's House


The Archdiocese of Bangalore joined the rest of the nation in celebrating India's 78th Independence Day with great enthusiasm and patriotism. On the morning of August 15, 2024, Archbishop Peter Machado led the celebration by hoisting the national flag at the Archbishop's House, symbolizing the Church’s solidarity with the nation.


In his address, Archbishop Machado emphasized the importance of unity, peace, and harmony among the diverse communities of India. He called on everyone to uphold the values of justice, equality, and freedom, which are the foundations of our democracy. The Archbishop also expressed gratitude for the sacrifices made by freedom fighters and reminded the gathering of the Church's commitment to contributing positively to the nation's development.


The event was attended by clergy, religious, and laity, who participated in singing the national anthem and offering prayers for the country and its leaders. The celebration not only marked the historical significance of India’s independence but also highlighted the role of the Church in promoting peace and social welfare in society.


In his message, Archbishop Peter Machado said, "As we celebrate this day of freedom, let us pledge to work for the upliftment of the marginalized and to spread the light of hope and love across our country. May India continue to thrive in peace and unity."

The celebration concluded with a special prayer for the nation, asking for God's blessings to guide India towards a future filled with prosperity, justice, and harmony.
