75th Independence Day: Archbishop Machado hoists the National Flag

August 15, 2022: As the nation awakes to celebrate the 75th Independence Day, Most Rev. Dr. Peter Machado, Archishop of Bangalore, hoisted the tricolour at Archbishop's House in Millers Road.

As he delivered his Independence Day message, the prelate invoked Mother Mary as the day also marked the Solemnity of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary.

The Assumption of Mary or the bodily taking of Mary the mother of Jesus into heaven, is one of the four Marian dogmas of the Catholic Church. Pope Pius XII confirmed it in 1950 in his apostolic constitution Munificentissimus Deus.

"We need to pray specially to Mother Mary who was not only pure and chaste but also physically taken up to heaven that’s the feast we celebrate today. Let’s ask Mary for the special grace for our country that she may march towards peace, progress and prosperity." he said.

The Archbishop also rememberd all the freedom fighters who sacrificed their life for our freedom.

All the elderly priests of the Clergy Home and other priests of the Archbishop’s House were present in this flag hoisting ceremony.
