Bangalore: On a busy Monday morning of August 19, 2019 the newly designed, beautiful and magnificent entrance Arch of St. Patrick's Church was blessed and inaugurated by his Grace, Archbishop Dr. Peter Machado. The inauguration ceremony took place after the 7 am Mass amidst Clergy, Parish Council members and parishioners.
Arches have a long history almost dating back to the days of Roman Empire. Arches are erected in the premises of special buildings where an extra significance is drawn upon these edifices. It also gives an aura as one enters and leave the campus. In this regard, St. Patrick’s Church is indeed a unique monument in the metropolitan city of Bangalore. Recently, in 2016 this Church celebrated its 175th anniversary.
The inaugurated magnificent arch on the top features 4 angels in the four corners with the image of Sacred Heart of Jesus in the center, the statue facing both sides of the arch. The letters engraved in the arch facing the roadside “O come, let us adore Him” and towards the Church side, it reads, “I am the Way, the Truth and the Life”. On the two pillars that hold the arch the images of St. Patrick and St. Antony are depicted. The rest of the arch is beautified by floral designs, faces of angels and other Christian symbols.
