Paalanaa Bhavan, Bengaluru | July 3, 2025: The Archdiocese of Bangalore organized an insightful Orientation Program for newly appointed Parish Priests and Assistant Parish Priests on 3rd July 2025 at the Diocesan Pastoral Centre – Paalanaa Bhavan. Under the theme “Shepherds After the Heart of Christ”, the gathering served as a moment of renewal and pastoral empowerment for the clergy. The event began with a prayerful opening and a warm welcome, setting the tone for a day filled with reflection, learning, and direction.

Delivering the keynote message, Archbishop Most Rev. Dr. Peter Machado emphasized the irreplaceable role of the priest in today’s world — as a spiritual father, community builder, and missionary disciple.

“A priest today is not merely a manager of sacraments but a bridge between God and His people — called to lead with humility, serve with love, and listen with the heart of Christ,” said Archbishop Peter, encouraging priests to embody Christ’s shepherding heart.

The Auxiliary Bishops of the Archdiocese, Rt. Rev. Arokiaraj Satis Kumar and Rt. Rev. Joseph Susainathan, offered key sessions that blended theology with practical guidance.

Bishop Joseph Susainathan, in his session on the celebration of the sacraments, reminded the priests:

“Every sacrament we celebrate must echo the mercy and tenderness of Christ. In the confessional and at the altar, we are not judges, but shepherds.”

Bishop Satis Kumar, who spoke on parish administration and canonical responsibilities, urged clarity and responsibility in parish operations:

“Good pastoral care requires good order. Administration is not a burden but a service — helping the parish function as a home of faith and grace.”

Highlighting the importance of accountability in parish management, Fr Naveen Balraj, the Archdiocesan Asst. Financial Administrator, delivered a practical and insightful session on financial management.

“Handling Church funds is not just an administrative duty — it is a moral responsibility. A transparent parish reflects the integrity of its shepherd,” he noted, urging priests to collaborate closely with finance committees and maintain clear documentation.

The final session of the morning dealt with one of the most relevant and emerging themes: Pastoral Communication in the Digital Age. This session, led by Fr Cyril Victor Joseph, along with Fr Maria Anthony, ignited a fresh enthusiasm among the priests to engage creatively with media for evangelisation.

“The Gospel deserves a global voice. Media is not a threat but a grace — if we use it with intention, creativity, and love,” shared Fr Cyril, stressing that the Church must be present and proactive in digital spaces.

The orientation concluded with a moment of prayer, mutual encouragement, and a shared meal, leaving the clergy inspired to return to their parishes with renewed vigor, clarity, and commitment.

The Archdiocese of Bangalore continues to stand as a beacon of pastoral formation and mission, nurturing its shepherds to lead faithfully in an ever-evolving world.
